The eleventh round of the 2024 Supercars Championship brought Tickford Racing up to Queensland for the 2024 Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500. Surfers Paradise Street Circuit would host Race 21 and Race 22 of the 2024 Championship with Cam Waters piloting the No. 6 Monster Energy Ford Mustang and Thomas Randle behind the wheel of the No.55 Castrol Racing Ford Mustang.
Practice 1 would kick off the race weekend on Friday with Cam Waters starting on a high with the fastest lap of the session thanks to a 1m11.397s best time. Thomas Randle would just miss out on the top ten, going eleventh fastest in the session with a best lap of 1m11.792s. Practice 2 would take place later that afternoon with both Tickford boys coming out on top. Thomas Randle would claim the fastest lap among the pack with a 1m10.377s best time. Cam Waters would follow close behind, driving the second fastest lap with a best time of 1m10.406s.
Qualifying for Race 21 would start off Saturday with Tickford Racing building on their momentum. Both drivers would earn themselves a spot in Saturday’s Top Ten Shootout with Cam Waters claiming a P3 quali result and Thomas Randle close behind in P4. The Top Ten Shootout would see Cam Waters claim pole position for the start of Race 21, coming out on top with a 1m11.058s best lap. Thomas Randle would meanwhile earn himself a P5 start on the grid for Saturday’s race thanks to a best time of 1m11.406s.
Race 21 would see Tickford Racing come out on top yet again with both drivers achieving a 1-2 finish for the team. Cam Waters would dominate the field from the get-go and ultimately claim the win with a comfortable gap of 9.4s. Meanwhile, Thomas Randle would fight for three places up from his starting position, crossing the Race 21 chequered flag in P2.
Sunday would commence with Qualifying for Race 22 with Cam Waters earning another spot in the Top Ten Shootout thanks to a P2 quali result. Thomas Randle would just miss out on the shootout, claiming a P11 start on the grid for Race 22. Sunday’s Top Ten Shootout would see Cam Waters earn a P7 start for Race 22 thanks to a best time of 1m10.917s.
Race 22 saw Cam Waters and Thomas Randle end the weekend firmly in the top ten with respective P4 and P5 race results. Both drivers would claim several spots up from their starting places on the grid to cap off a stellar weekend for Tickford Racing.
With the Gold Coast 500 done and dusted, we see Cam Waters remain in 4th place in the standings with 2334 points with Thomas Randle moving up to 7th with 1792 points. In the team standings, we see Tickford Racing hold on to their 2nd place on the ladder with a total of 3617 points.
The twelfth round of the 2024 Supercars Championship will see the series head to South Australia for the 2024 VAILO Adelaide 500, running from November 14th – 17th.
